No offense to the high school trips many of us (or our children) went on, because seeing more of the world is never a bad thing. But an adult, no chaperone visit is definitely a significantly different (and dare I say more fun) experience.

There is much more to the U.K. than Big Ben and the London Eye, Stonehenge, castles and beautiful landscapes (although we recommend trying to visit those at some point during your lifetime). Think outside of the large guided bus-tour box – or let us do it for you. In this post we’ll focus on Scotland.

What are your hobbies? What piques your interest? Maybe you are a foodie and would like to explore Scotland’s traditional fare. Look forward to savoring some of the best neeps, haggis, and tatties in the country, whether in small taverns or the finest restaurants of Edinburgh (FYI…we will let you know the hours, appropriate attire, price range and even make reservations for you if needed).

On the other hand, if neeps (Google it) sound like something your mom made you eat before you could have dessert, the malt whiskey tour of distilleries in Speyside might be more up your alley. Or how about a knitting tour? Bring your knitting group to tour farms, factories, and get lessons from local craft expert instructors. Priceless!

Some people are banking on Starbucks having franchises across the U.K. and care only about the outdoors and adventure. One popular choice is walking up Ben Nevis (there are various trails to meet your experience level), but again, there are many lesser-known options for those who like to venture off the beaten path (pun intended). We would love to make recommendations!

And then there is beautiful Loch Ness. If you’re just interested because you think you might get a glimpse of the Loch Ness monster, the chances are about as good as finding Bigfoot, so take that for what it’s worth. But the chances of getting more than a glimpse – even a tour of the Scottish home of the British Royal family are very good. Oh, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the breathtaking fall leaves in the Scottish Highlands.

There’s so much to explore in Scotland, much less the rest of the United Kingdom: Glasgow, Edinburgh, the picturesque harbor town of Plockton! So keep banking those memories of Buckingham Palace and the Thames, and make new ones in Scotland. We would love to help you plan an amazing trip.
